Phil is currently available to serve as an
arbitrator in matters
requiring timely resolution.

An Atlanta native, Phil attended The Westminster Schools and Furman University before receiving his law degree from Emory University, where he clerked at the Court of Appeals for Justice George H. Carley. Phil has practiced law for more than 35 years and has served as lead counsel in thousands of family law cases. He brings a wealth of practical experience and a deep understanding of the complex and often interrelated issues that family law presents.

Phil maintains an active family law practice and holds the legal process in high regard, while recognizing that when families are involved, there is often a better way to resolve disputes. His practice philosophy has long been that negotiated resolutions can spare parties the frustration, time, and expense of trial and frequently produce better, more durable outcomes than litigation. This belief—reinforced by decades of firsthand experience—led him to become a registered civil and domestic mediator, and he has recently expanded his practice to include arbitration.

As both a mediator and arbitrator, Phil focuses on helping parties reach practical, forward-looking resolutions. In mediation, he works collaboratively to explore options the parties may not have previously considered, crafting creative solutions to complex problems. In arbitration, he applies his extensive litigation background to provide thoughtful, well-reasoned decisions grounded in both law and equity. In both roles, his experience allows him to quickly identify key issues and interests for the benefit of the parties and their families.

Phil lives in Peachtree Corners with his wife, Erica, who is the founder of Atlanta Divorce and Parent, a cutting-edge firm that specializes in parent coordination. Prior to launching ADAP she was an executive and professional coach, frequently published and cited in national journals as a recognized expert.

The couple is deeply engaged in community service, with a particular focus on causes that support families and veterans. Together, they have three adult children, three rescue dogs, and a rescue cockatiel. Both are avid readers and enjoy playing golf and tennis.
